The Best Restaurants in Forney, Texas

Nine Forney restaurants verified against their own sites, the chamber directory and local reviews, from a Bishop Arts pizzeria downtown to Cajun catfish.

The Short Answer

Eno's Pizza Tavern on South Bois d'Arc is the best restaurant in Forney, a thin crust pizzeria that brought its Bishop Arts kitchen to a historic downtown building in 2017. Doe Belly's does the best Cajun catfish, Forney Brewing Company is the local brewery and kitchen, and Stash's Table and Fable has the burger.

Eno's Pizza Tavern

Historic downtown · $$

Known for Thin crust pizza and craft beer in a 3,600 square foot downtown building

Eno's opened in the Bishop Arts District in 2008 and brought its second kitchen to downtown Forney in July 2017, into about 3,600 square feet on South Bois d'Arc. The format is the same one that built the original: thin crust pizza, farm fresh salads and a long craft beer list, in a room that does not feel like a suburban strip center.

The Forney location is also the only one of the three Eno's restaurants with its own brunch menu, which is the single best argument for driving out here on a Sunday instead of into Oak Cliff. The Forney Economic Development Corporation named it Business of the Month in March 2026, which is as close as a town this size gets to a civic endorsement.

Go-to order or tip: Brunch is Forney only. Check the brunch menu rather than the lunch and dinner menu if you are coming before noon, and book a table for a large party rather than walking in.

Doe Belly's

West Broad Street · $$

Known for Fried catfish, gumbo and shrimp po boys, in Forney since 2009

Patrick and Monica McCrea opened Doe Belly's in Forney in 2009 and ran it long enough to earn a second location, which landed in Seagoville in January 2025. The menu is Cajun and Creole done without decoration: gumbo, etouffee, jambalaya, fried and grilled fish and shrimp, and the po boys that CultureMap singled out alongside the fried catfish when it covered the expansion.

This is the longest running independent kitchen on this list and the one most clearly rooted in Forney rather than imported into it. Note the four day week. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, and Sunday service stops at 3pm.

Go-to order or tip: Go for the catfish and a po boy rather than trying to order a table full of small plates. The kitchen is built around fried fish and it shows.

Forney Brewing Company

Historic downtown · $$

Known for Eight house beers brewed on site behind a glass wall, plus smash burgers and pizza

Forney Brewing opened at 203 E Main Street on June 14, 2025, after the Forney Economic Development Corporation announced it as a brewery and kitchen concept new to Kaufman County. The brewing equipment sits behind a glass wall from the dining room, which is the whole design idea, and the EDC named it Business of the Month that September.

The house list on its own site runs eight beers with ABV and IBU published for each, from a 4.6 percent American light lager to a 6.8 percent hazy IPA, with a Mexican style lager, a hefeweizen, a Czech style lager, an amber, a hoppy brown and a juicy IPA in between. The kitchen is not an afterthought: smash burgers, a fried chicken sandwich, wings, Bavarian pretzels, four pizzas including one called the Forney Hot, and sticky toffee pudding.

Go-to order or tip: Saturday is the only day it opens before 4pm, at 11.30am. Every other day is an evening visit, so do not plan a weekday lunch here.

Hours
Closed Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 4pm to 10pm, Friday 4pm to 11pm, Saturday 11.30am to 11pm, Sunday noon to 9pm

Stash's Table & Fable

South Bois d'Arc, downtown · $

Known for A half pound burger on toasted brioche, ordered at the counter next to a bookshelf

A small counter service room that pairs comfort food with a lending shelf and community events, which sounds like a gimmick until you order. InForney's Forney Foodie column, written by Jennifer Jacobs, reviewed it on May 3, 2025 and gave the burger 4.5 out of 5, calling it flat out delicious on a toasted brioche bun and a bargain at $13 with a bottled drink. Her overall score was 4 out of 5, with the small dining room pulling atmosphere down to 3.

The burger arrives with kettle chips rather than fries. The rest of the menu runs to pulled pork street tacos, a Greek salad and a meat and cheese board. It keeps short hours, Wednesday through Saturday only, 11am to 7pm.

Go-to order or tip: Jacobs' only complaint was the leaf lettuce and the thin slice of onion, so ask for extra onion when you order. Her verdict was that nothing else in Forney beats this burger.

Hours
Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 7pm

Southern Social Eatery

The OC on Innovation Boulevard · $$

Known for Oxtails, smothered chicken and collard greens cooked with ham hocks

Southern comfort cooking done properly and at length, inside the Innovation Boulevard development locals call The OC. The menu is the real thing rather than a nod to it: oxtails, smothered chicken, fried chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, loaded potatoes, collard greens with ham hocks, candied yams and macaroni and cheese.

Finish with peach cobbler or the bread pudding with bourbon glaze. It has the widest opening hours of anything on this list, 9am to 10pm six days a week, and it takes reservations and private party bookings, which almost nothing else in Forney does.

Go-to order or tip: It is the only kitchen on this list open until 10pm Monday through Saturday. If you are getting into Forney late off US 80, this is the answer.

Hours
Monday to Saturday 9am to 10pm, Sunday noon to 6pm

Madres Cocina

Pinson Road · $$

Known for Birria quesadilla tacos and a fried stuffed avocado

A family run Mexican kitchen on Pinson Road that says on its own site that the recipes have been in the family for decades. The two dishes worth driving for are the birria quesadilla tacos and the stuffed avocado, which comes fried or grilled and is not something you find on most Tex-Mex menus in Kaufman County.

The rest reads like a well run neighbourhood restaurant rather than a concept: classic fajitas, a chicken fried steak dinner, burgers and seafood, with vegetarian options marked. Closed Sunday, which catches people out.

Go-to order or tip: Order the stuffed avocado as a starter and the birria quesadilla tacos as the main. Those two are the reason to pick this over the other Mexican restaurants in town.

Hours
Monday to Thursday 11am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to 9pm, closed Sunday

Alfredo's Steak House

East US Highway 80 · $$

Known for Breakfast served all day since 2004, with a salad bar and homemade pies

Open since 2004 and the most straightforwardly useful restaurant in Forney. Breakfast runs all day, which means pancakes, eggs and biscuits at 6pm if that is what you want, and the rest of the menu is home style American: sandwiches, burgers, steaks, soups and a fresh salad bar, with homemade pies at the end.

It opens at 7am Monday through Saturday, earlier than anything else here, and it is right on US 80 so it is the easy stop coming in or out of town. Sunday it closes at 2.30pm.

Go-to order or tip: The salad bar and the all day breakfast are the two things it is set up to do. If you want a steakhouse dinner, the name oversells it slightly and you should read the menu first.

Hours
Monday to Saturday 7am to 8pm, Sunday 8am to 2.30pm

Rio Lerma Mexican Restaurant

East US Highway 80 · $$

Known for Enchiladas con huevos in chipotle sauce, and the rice and beans

The Forney Foodie column in InForney reviewed Rio Lerma on May 13, 2025 and put it solidly among the good Mexican restaurants in town, scoring food 4, service 5, atmosphere 3 and 4 out of 5 overall. The specific praise went to the enchiladas con huevos with chipotle sauce and, unusually, to the rice and beans, which the reviewer called the standout of the meal.

It is a brunch option as well as a dinner one, and the lot was already filling at 11.15 on a weekday morning when that review ran. Hours differ between listings, so call rather than trusting a directory. There is a separate Rio Lerma in Terrell, 12 miles east, so check the address when you search.

Go-to order or tip: Go at late morning on a weekend and order the enchiladas con huevos. The queso and the chips and salsa are ordinary, so spend the appetite on the plate.

Hours
Opens late morning daily and serves into the evening, call ahead because listings disagree

Tokyo Harbor

East US Highway 80 · $$

Known for Tableside hibachi with the onion volcano, plus a sushi bar

The only hibachi table in Forney, and the reason it is on this list rather than left off as a novelty is the sushi. The Forney Foodie review on April 23, 2025 scored it 4 out of 5 across food, service and atmosphere, praised the tuna roll as genuinely fresh, and found the prices fair for the portions and the show.

The hibachi comes with the full routine, onion volcano, flaming sake bottle and the bouncing egg. Order the steak and shrimp rather than the chicken, which that review found dry. The room gets loud when there are birthdays in, which there usually are.

Go-to order or tip: Ask for a hibachi table rather than the dining room if you are bringing children, and the sushi bar if you are not. They are effectively two different restaurants.

How did we pick these?

Three sources carried this list. The first is the Forney Chamber of Commerce member directory, which publishes 41 restaurant and food listings with addresses and phone numbers, and which is the only complete enumeration of eating places in this town that exists anywhere. The second is each restaurant's own website: six of the nine above have one, and every address, phone number and set of hours attributed to those six came off their own pages rather than a directory. The third is InForney, the local news site, whose Forney Foodie column by Jennifer Jacobs reviews restaurants here with numbered scores, which is a rarer thing in a town of this size than it should be.

We also used the Forney Economic Development Corporation's Business of the Month announcements, because for a small town they function as proof a business was still trading in a given month. That is how we confirmed Eno's in March 2026 and Forney Brewing in September 2025.

The cuts were mostly chains. The chamber directory is thick with them: Torchy's, Chick-fil-A, Outback, Raising Cane's, Whataburger, Layne's, Golden Chick, Dillas, Charley's, Starbucks, Crumbl and Nothing Bundt Cakes are all members and none of them tells you anything about Forney. Soulman's Bar-B-Que has been a Texas company since 1974 and the Forney branch is fine, but it is a branch. Cristina's is a Dallas area Tex-Mex chain. We left the dedicated brunch rooms out because Forney has enough of them to deserve their own list. We left the Victorian Tea Room off because we could not find anything it publishes itself. No business here is a client of ours, and nothing in our client file matched Forney and restaurants, so this is a straight editorial list.

One thing worth saying plainly: our number one pick is not a Forney original. Eno's opened in Oak Cliff's Bishop Arts District in 2008 and Forney is its second location. We ranked it first anyway, because it is the best food in town and it put a real kitchen into a historic downtown building rather than a pad site. Doe Belly's at number two is the homegrown pick, in Forney since 2009.

What should you know before you go?

Forney's food has reorganised itself around two places in the last decade: the historic downtown blocks on Bois d'Arc and Main, and the US 80 corridor. Downtown is where the independents are and where a visit is worth planning. US 80 is where you stop when you are driving. The newer retail on FM 548, Marketplace Boulevard and Innovation Boulevard is a third zone and mostly newer arrivals.

The thing that will catch you out is hours. Four of the nine close two days a week, and three of them close by 7pm or 9pm. Forney is not a late town.

Restaurant Area Opens earliest Closed days
Alfredo's Steak House US 80 7am Monday to Saturday None
Southern Social Eatery Innovation Blvd 9am None
Eno's Pizza Tavern Downtown 11am Monday
Madres Cocina Pinson Rd 11am Sunday
Stash's Table & Fable Downtown 11am, closes 7pm Sunday to Tuesday
Doe Belly's W Broad St 11am Monday and Tuesday
Forney Brewing Company Downtown 4pm, 11.30am Saturday Monday and Tuesday

Parking downtown is on street and free, and the Bois d'Arc blocks put Eno's and Stash's directly across from each other, so you can look at both menus before committing. If you are coming from Dallas, Forney is about 20 miles east on US 80, which is 25 minutes without traffic and closer to 45 at rush hour.

What about Terrell and Rockwall?

Worth knowing, because Forney sits between them. Terrell is 12 miles further east on US 80 and has its own restaurant scene, including a second Rio Lerma that is not connected to the Forney one in any way we could confirm, so check the address before you drive. Rockwall is 15 miles north and is the bigger night out, with a lakefront and a deeper bench. Canton and First Monday Trade Days are about 40 miles east if you are making a day of it.

What should you do next?

Park downtown on a Saturday evening. Start with a beer at Forney Brewing on East Main, walk four minutes to Bois d'Arc, and eat at either Eno's or Stash's depending on whether you want a pizza or the burger. That is the best two hours available in Forney and it costs almost nothing in driving.

If you are eating one meal here and want it to be the local one, go to Doe Belly's on West Broad for catfish, Wednesday through Saturday. For more of this corner of Texas, our guide to the best restaurants in Rockwall covers the bigger lake town 15 miles north, and the best places to eat in Canton covers the First Monday weekend. Everything we have written about this city lives on the Forney guides hub, and the restaurants section collects every town we have ranked. Frequently Asked Questions

Of the independents on this list, Alfredo's Steak House on East US Highway 80 has been open since 2004 and Doe Belly's since 2009. Soulman's Bar-B-Que has a Forney branch and has been a Texas barbecue chain since 1974, but the Forney location is much newer than the company.

Yes. Forney Brewing Company opened at 203 E Main Street in historic downtown on June 14, 2025, and brews eight house beers on site behind a glass wall you can see from the dining room. The Forney Economic Development Corporation announced it as a brewery and kitchen concept new to Kaufman County and named it Business of the Month in September 2025.

Downtown is the strongest few blocks in town for food. Eno's Pizza Tavern is at 215 S Bois d'Arc, Stash's Table and Fable is at 212 S Bois d'Arc directly opposite, Forney Brewing Company is at 203 E Main Street, and Doe Belly's is on West Broad. All four are walking distance from each other.

Better than you would expect, because the chains and the independents sit on the same stretch. Alfredo's at 111 E US Hwy 80 opens at 7am, Rio Lerma is at 124 E US Hwy 80, and Tokyo Harbor is at 100 E US Hwy 80. Southern Social Eatery on Innovation Boulevard is the only kitchen here serving until 10pm.

The Forney Chamber of Commerce directory carries 41 member listings under restaurants, catering, snacks and drinks, though that count includes coffee shops, dessert stores, caterers and national chains. The number of independent sit down kitchens is closer to a dozen, which is why this list is nine rather than twenty.

Forney has an unusual concentration of brunch rooms for a town its size. Eno's Pizza Tavern runs a brunch menu at its Forney location only. Nina's Brunch is on Marketplace Boulevard, and InForney's food column has also covered 30 Brunch House and Brunch Room Bistro. We left the dedicated brunch rooms out of this list because they are a different article.
