The Short Answer

Work Environmental Systems in Denton is the strongest all-round answer for Krum, building and servicing systems here since 1969. If you want a shop inside Krum itself, Comfort Conditioning holds a Class A state licence on US 380, and Precision Comfort on Trent Road runs seven days a week.

Work Environmental Systems

Fort Worth Drive, Denton · $$

Known for The longest continuous track record of any HVAC company in the Krum corridor

Founded in Denton in 1969 by Peter Work, this is the oldest operating heating and air company anywhere near Krum, and the depth shows in what it will take on. Residential changeouts, commercial rooftop work, duct installs, and maintenance agreements all run out of the same shop on Fort Worth Drive.

It is an authorized Trane dealer, carries an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and has taken Best of Denton honors in the Denton Record-Chronicle readers poll, including 2014, 2015, and 2016. Krum sits about twelve miles up US 380 and I-35, so this is a same-day call, not a road trip.

Go-to order or tip: Ask about a maintenance agreement in spring rather than in July. Priority scheduling is the part you actually pay for once the first hundred-degree week hits.

ACE Heating & Air Conditioning

FM 2164, Sanger · $$

Known for A round-the-clock small-town shop with three decades of BBB history

ACE works out of a shop on FM 2164 north of Sanger, roughly nine miles from Krum on county roads that stay open when I-35 does not. The Better Business Bureau opened its file on the company in 1993 and lists Troy Heimdal as owner, which is about as long a paper trail as any independent in Denton County has.

Listings show it staffed around the clock, and it covers installation, repair, maintenance, and duct cleaning rather than pushing every call toward a replacement quote.

Go-to order or tip: Sanger and Krum share the same rural power grid quirks. Mention any recent flicker or outage when you call, because a tripped contactor gets diagnosed faster than a bad compressor.

Comfort Conditioning

US Highway 380 West · $$

Known for The only Class A licensed contractor with a Krum street address

Comfort Conditioning holds Texas licence TACLA146725C. The A classification carries no tonnage limit, which is why the company can quote a house on Saturday and a walk-in cooler on Monday. Commercial refrigeration and process piping for restaurant kitchens sit alongside the residential work, and very few shops this close to Krum do both.

The office is a suite on the US 380 frontage west of town, so a Krum service call is a five-minute drive rather than a dispatch out of Denton. The company is a GuildQuality member, which means its customer surveys are collected by a third party instead of by the company itself.

Go-to order or tip: If you run a restaurant, bar, or convenience store between Krum and Decatur, ask about the refrigeration side. It is the part of the business that is hardest to replace locally.

Hours
Monday through Saturday daytime into the evening, shorter hours on Sunday

Known for HVAC and plumbing licences under one family-owned roof, open every day

Precision Comfort is family owned and operated out of a Trent Road address in Krum, and it publishes two state credentials rather than one, TACLB135524E for air conditioning and M43662 on the plumbing side. That combination matters more than it sounds when a condensate line, a gas connection, or a water heater turns out to be tangled up in the HVAC problem.

Its stated service area is Krum, Denton, Ponder, and the surrounding county, which is a narrower and more honest footprint than the DFW-wide claims most search results carry.

Go-to order or tip: Book maintenance for a weekend morning. The seven-day schedule means you are not burning a vacation day to meet a technician.

Hours
Seven days a week, roughly 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Known for The biggest crew in the corridor, with plumbing and HVAC on the same truck roster

Strittmatter was founded in Denton in 2006 by Joe and Tawnya Strittmatter and grew into one of the largest home service operations in Denton County, covering Krum, Sanger, Ponder, and Justin from its Denton base. Size buys you things a two-truck shop cannot offer, mainly evening and weekend availability during a heat wave when everyone else is booked out.

One thing worth knowing before you call. The Denton Record-Chronicle reported that the company was acquired by Granite Comfort, a New York based investor in HVAC and plumbing businesses. It still trades under the family name and the local crews are local, but it is no longer independently owned. We are not publishing a street address because listings split between a West Hickory Street suite and a South Bell Avenue location.

Go-to order or tip: Get the flat-rate number in writing before work starts. Larger outfits price by the task rather than by the hour, which is fine, but only if you see the task list first.

Hours
Seven days a week into the evening, with emergency dispatch

R2 Mechanical HVAC

North 2nd Street · $$

Known for Krum-based commercial and residential work with duct cleaning and air quality in house

R2 operates from a Krum address under Texas licence TACLB20924E and has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since July 2023, with Jennifer Tutt listed as owner. Business records date the company to September 2020. It is also a member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, so its record is checkable in three places that are not its own website.

The mix is what sets it apart from the other Krum shops. Commercial and residential air conditioning, heating, duct cleaning, and indoor air quality all run in house, with round-the-clock emergency dispatch across the DFW side of the county. Hello Web Designs has a client relationship with this business, disclosed on the card and again below.

Go-to order or tip: If your ducts have never been cleaned and the house predates the 2010s growth wave, price the duct work and the system service on the same visit rather than as two trips.

Hours
Monday through Saturday daytime and evening, limited Sunday hours, with 24/7 emergency dispatch

Air Done Right Mechanical

US Highway 380 West · $$

Known for A veteran-owned shop that advertises no overtime charges on after-hours calls

Air Done Right is family owned and veteran owned, working out of a US 380 address on the west side of Krum under licence TACLB29673E. It handles residential and light commercial repair, maintenance, and replacement on all makes, with same-day and 24-hour emergency availability and no overtime surcharge on the after-hours rate.

We are not publishing a phone number for this one. Three different numbers appear across the directories, so use the contact form on the company site or the number on its own contact page. Founding claims also vary between listings, so treat any specific year you see elsewhere with caution.

Go-to order or tip: The no-overtime policy is worth testing on a Saturday breakdown. Confirm it applies to the diagnostic fee and not just the labor rate.

Force Home Services

North Elm Street, Denton · $$$

Known for One dispatch for HVAC, plumbing, and water heaters

Force works out of a North Elm Street shop in Denton, carries a Better Business Bureau profile, and belongs to the Denton Chamber of Commerce. It runs furnace, air conditioning, plumbing, and water heater work through a single office, which is the practical reason to call it. An older house that needs a system swap and a gas line moved does not need two contractors coordinating.

As with Air Done Right, the directories carry several different phone numbers for this company, so we are pointing you at the site rather than picking one.

Go-to order or tip: Ask whether the technician who quotes the job is the one who performs it. On multi-trade calls that answer changes how the day goes.

Air-Care Texas

US 377, Aubrey · $$

Known for Denton County service since 1987, worth the extra drive for a second opinion

Air-Care has been working Denton and the surrounding towns since 1987, from a US 377 address in Aubrey. That is the far side of Denton from Krum, roughly twenty-two miles, and we have ranked it last for that reason rather than on quality.

Where it earns its place is the second quote. When a Krum shop tells you the system is finished and the replacement number lands somewhere you were not expecting, a company with almost forty years in the county and no stake in the first diagnosis is a useful phone call.

Go-to order or tip: Say up front that you are seeking a second opinion on an existing quote. It saves both sides a conversation and usually gets you a straighter answer.

How did we pick these?

We started with every company that returns for a Krum search and then threw out most of them. The cut that mattered was the address test. A page titled "HVAC in Krum, TX" with no street number on it is a service-area landing page, and the truck behind it may be an hour away in Dallas or Fort Worth. Mondragon Mechanical, for example, is a real company doing real work, but it operates from Virgo Lane in Dallas, so it is not on this list.

What survived was nine companies we could place on a map. Four have addresses inside Krum. The rest sit in Denton, Sanger, and Aubrey, and each one is labeled with where it actually works from, because the drive time is the whole point in a town of roughly five and a half thousand people. We checked state licence numbers where companies publish them, Better Business Bureau files and accreditation dates, Denton Chamber of Commerce membership, manufacturer dealer listings, and the Denton Record-Chronicle's business reporting.

Where sources disagreed, we left the fact out rather than picking one. That is why Strittmatter has no street address here, why Air Done Right and Force Home Services have no phone numbers, and why you will not find a founding year for Air Done Right. Three directories, three different answers.

One disclosure. R2 Mechanical at number six is a Hello Web Designs client. It earned the spot on a record we can check independently, a current state licence, Better Business Bureau accreditation dating to July 2023, and Denton Chamber membership, and it sits behind five companies with longer or deeper records. We also list it under its operating name rather than the older one, and we publish no review counts for it or for anyone else here, because the aggregators disagree wildly.

What should you know before you go?

Krum grew fast. The Handbook of Texas records a population under two thousand in 2000 and around five and a half thousand by 2020, and that growth curve is sitting in your attic right now. A large share of the housing stock went up between 2005 and 2020, which means a lot of systems in this town are hitting the fifteen to twenty year mark at the same time. Expect replacement conversations, and expect summer to be busy.

Company Based in Miles from Krum Also does
Work Environmental Systems Denton About 12 Commercial, ductwork
ACE Heating & Air Sanger About 9 Duct cleaning
Comfort Conditioning Krum In town Commercial refrigeration
Precision Comfort Krum In town Plumbing
Strittmatter Denton About 12 Plumbing
R2 Mechanical Krum In town Duct cleaning, air quality
Air Done Right Krum In town Light commercial
Force Home Services Denton About 12 Plumbing, water heaters
Air-Care Texas Aubrey About 22 Residential replacement

Two practical notes. First, service agreements are worth more here than in a big city, because the queue is short and being on the priority list genuinely moves you up it. Second, if your house is west of town on acreage, say so when you book. Well pumps, propane, and long duct runs change what the technician needs on the truck.

What about the rest of Denton County?

If you are in Ponder, Sanger, or Justin, this list holds up, since every company on it covers those towns. If you are actually in Denton itself, the field widens considerably and the ranking would change. Krum sits at a useful intersection, close enough to Denton to draw the large operations and small enough to still have four independent shops of its own.

For how we handle this kind of research generally, our HVAC company guides across Texas follow the same method, and the Sulphur Springs HVAC list shows what it looks like in a Northeast Texas town of similar size. Everything else we have published for this town collects on the Krum city page.

What should you do next?

If your system is running and you just want somebody on file, call Work Environmental Systems or ACE and set up a maintenance visit before the next season turns. If it is ninety-eight degrees and the house is warming up, call the closest Krum shop first, which is Comfort Conditioning, Precision Comfort, R2, or Air Done Right depending on which side of town you are on. And if you are staring at a replacement quote with four zeros in it, get the second opinion from Air-Care in Aubrey before you sign anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Krum has four HVAC companies with street addresses inside the city, which is unusual for a town this size. Comfort Conditioning and Air Done Right are both on the US 380 corridor, Precision Comfort is on Trent Road, and R2 Mechanical is off North 2nd Street. The larger Denton companies also cover Krum routinely.

Ask for the TACL number and confirm it is current with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. A licence beginning TACLA has no tonnage limit, TACLB is capped at twenty-five tons of cooling, which is well above anything in a house. Ask for proof of liability insurance, and get the quote in writing before work starts.

Same day is realistic if you call in the morning, and several of these companies publish after-hours or twenty-four hour dispatch. Peak weeks in July and August are the exception. If you are on a maintenance agreement you move up the queue, which is most of what those agreements buy you.

The usual trigger points are a failed compressor, a refrigerant leak in the coil, or a system still running R-22. Get two written quotes before deciding, and ask each contractor to show the load calculation for the size they are proposing rather than matching whatever is already sitting on the pad.

Comfort Conditioning does commercial refrigeration and process piping for restaurant and commercial kitchens, and R2 Mechanical takes commercial HVAC alongside residential. Work Environmental handles commercial heating and cooling from its Denton shop. For a walk-in cooler or a bar system, start with those three.
