The Best Restaurants in Sherman, Texas

Sherman natives Ryan Stoll and Luke Scheibmeir bought the corner building on 1 April 2024 and reworked what had traded for years as the Old Iron Post into The Post. The renovation itself became local news twice. KXII covered the sealed rooms the crew found inside the walls in February 2025, then came back in March when they picked the lock on a vault built in the late 1800s.

The kitchen is pub food done properly rather than cleverly. Wings in the house Posty sauce, biscuits with fried chicken and jalapeno jam, chicken and waffles, a Philly cheesesteak, chicken fried steak, fish and chips with tartar made in house. The building runs about 13,000 square feet, with roughly half of that in use, so it absorbs a Friday crowd better than anywhere else downtown.

Aaron Vogel, known locally as Big A, opened this with his wife Andrea on 17 March 2005, and it has been the highest-ranked restaurant in Sherman on Tripadvisor for a long stretch. The pit runs apple wood, which is unusual in a state that defaults to post oak, and the menu carries both Central Texas brisket and the baby back ribs you would more often find in Memphis.

The competition side is real and checkable. KXII followed the crew to the Hogs for the Cause charity cookoff in New Orleans in April 2026. The restaurant also claims a Texas state championship and a run of Best BBQ of Texoma wins on its own site, which we have not been able to confirm anywhere independent, so treat those as the house telling its own story.

Sherman went without a real Italian restaurant for years, which is exactly why this one landed the way it did. The family behind it told KXII in December 2024 that they had heard the town needed one, and the station found the dining room full at both lunch and dinner within weeks of opening. Homemade pastas, pizzas, wine, beer and cocktails. The lobster ravioli and the chicken piccata are the dishes reviewers keep naming. Gluten-free diners get a real menu here rather than a shrug.

The bun is the argument. MG's bakes its own daily, and once you have had a Cadillac or a Chevy on one, the grocery-store bun everywhere else stops being invisible. The restaurant has carried the line "puttin' junk in your trunk since 1982" for as long as anyone can point to, and the dining room is decorated end to end with hood ornaments, filling-station signage and a full-size MG.

Beyond the burgers it is fried zucchini strips, onion rings, potato skins and homemade fries. It also carries the deepest public review record of any burger place in Sherman, which matters in a town where the aggregators are otherwise thin.

A family-owned bar and grill that has been on the Texoma Parkway side of town since 1982, doing the things a Texas bar and grill is supposed to do without reinventing any of them. Chicken fried steak with cream gravy, big burgers, hand-cut fries, queso, baked potatoes and frozen margaritas.

It sits near the US 75 interchange, so it is the easiest stop on this list if you are passing through rather than staying. Regulars order off menu here, which is worth knowing before you assume the printed list is everything available.

Camino Viejo is family owned and sits in the historic downtown core rather than out on the highway, which is rarer in Sherman than it should be. It ranks fourth of ninety-seven Sherman restaurants on Tripadvisor and carries more than a thousand reviews across platforms, a volume no other independent Mexican kitchen in town comes close to.

Traditional plates with a light Texan lean, so tamales, enchiladas, tacos and fajitas alongside seafood. Breakfast runs all day, and Tuesday is the endless enchilada night that fills the room.

The building went up in 1933 as a farmhouse, served as the city of Knollwood's public library until 1976, and has been a restaurant ever since. That is a genuine piece of local history rather than a decorating theme, and it gives Sherman the one white-tablecloth dinner room it has.

Steaks and prime rib are what people drive out for. Be clear on the geography though. Knollwood is its own small incorporated town wrapped by Sherman, so the restaurant carries a Sherman mailing address while technically sitting just outside the city. It is a five-minute drive north of the square either way.

Started by a mother of five making pupusas by hand, and still the only place in Grayson County doing Salvadoran food rather than Tex-Mex. Pupusas, tamales, fried plantains, quesadillas and tacos, cooked the way they are cooked at home rather than adjusted for a North Texas palate.

The room is small and plain and the point is the griddle. If you have never had a pupusa, order the revuelta and let the curtido do its job.

Cellarman's is the only brewpub in Sherman and one of the few genuine brewery operations in Grayson County, which is why it turns up in statewide brewery listings. By its own account it opened in 1998 as a hundred-seat pub with five draughts, and it now runs a two-story brew house on site alongside a long list of guest draughts and bottles.

The kitchen is better than a beer bar needs to be. Wood-fired oven pizzas, thick-cut burgers and a full dessert list. It also keeps the latest hours on this list by a wide margin, which makes it the default answer after nine o'clock.

Three days a week, and worth planning around. Homemade po'boys, shrimp etouffee, gumbo, red beans, dirty rice, jambalaya, macaroni and cheese and cornbread, cooked Louisiana rather than Louisiana-flavored. Boudin balls are the thing reviewers name first and most often.

It is the only Cajun and Creole kitchen in Sherman with a real review record, and it sits a few blocks west of downtown on the same stretch as La Placita, so the two make an easy pair to try on separate trips.
