How did we pick these?
We started from the two lists the town keeps itself, the City of Bonham visitor pages and the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce attractions page, then checked every candidate against something outside Bonham. That meant the Texas Historical Commission, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Briscoe Center at UT Austin, the Handbook of Texas for Charlie Christian, and KXII and KETR for the news.
There are no partners, clients or sponsored entries on this list. No business in our client file operates an attraction anywhere in Fannin County, so nothing was pre-filled into this article and nothing was cut because of a relationship.
Two things got ranked down rather than dropped. Bonham State Park would normally sit in the top three, but its own alert page has the trails closed for unsafe conditions since February 2026 and the lake under a hydrilla alert since September 2025, so it is sixth with the reason on the card. Lake Bonham is last because of the sedimentation problem residents have been campaigning about. North Texas Safari Park is the one entry with a thin public record, and its card says so.
What should you know before you go?
Almost everything indoors in Bonham runs on a short week. Nothing here opens on a Monday except the Sam Rayburn Museum, and the Rayburn House is shut Monday and Tuesday. Saturday is the only day all six indoor stops are open at once.
| Stop | Days | Cost | Time needed |
| Sam Rayburn House | Wed to Sun | $6 adults | 1 hour |
| Fannin County Courthouse | Any time outside | Free | 20 minutes |
| Sam Rayburn Museum | Mon to Sat | Free | 45 minutes |
| Fannin County Museum of History | Tue to Sat | Free | 1 hour |
| Fort Inglish Village | Tue to Sat, Mar to Nov | Free | 45 minutes |
| Creative Arts Center | Tue to Sat morning | Free | 30 minutes |
| North Texas Safari Park | Weekends in season | $$ at the gate | 2 hours |
| Bois d'Arc Lake | Daily | Free to launch | Half a day |
The other thing to know is that the visitor center everyone links to is not where the internet says it is. The building at 327 N Main St closed on 3 April for a renovation the city expects to finish in 2027, and the staff moved to 211 N Main St with the same phone numbers. That matters because the printed barn quilt trail map comes from them.
What else is worth your time in Fannin County?
Four things that did not make the ranked ten but would be a shame to miss.
The Fannin County Quilt Barn Trail is the largest barn quilt trail in Texas, started in 2012 and now past 100 painted squares hung on barns and buildings across the county, split into routes you drive. Pick up the map from the relocated visitor center or download it before you leave home.
Powder Creek Park is a 32 acre city park south of the courthouse off Main Street, with a paved walking loop of about a mile, a wrought iron footbridge, a playground, picnic tables and a splash pad that runs Memorial Day to Labor Day. It is free and it opens at 5 a.m.
Bonham Trade Days has been running for decades under the Bonham Kiwanis Club with the city, at 1100 W 5th St next to Fort Inglish. It runs Thursday through Sunday once a month, rain or shine, free to get in and free to park. The city and the chamber word the monthly date rule slightly differently, so check the posted schedule rather than counting Mondays yourself.
The Caddo National Grassland is about twenty miles east, on FM 100 north of Honey Grove. Coffee Mill Lake and Lake Crockett both have boat ramps and campgrounds, and the multi use trails take horses and mountain bikes as well as boots.
What should you do next?
Give it a Saturday, not an afternoon. Start at the Fannin County Museum of History when it opens, walk the square and the courthouse, then drive five minutes west and do the Rayburn Museum and Fort Inglish back to back before your booked hour at the Rayburn House. That is the whole historic core done properly by mid afternoon.
If you have a second day, or if you are bringing children, spend it outdoors instead. Bois d'Arc Lake in the morning and the safari park after lunch is the better version of that day than anything downtown can offer a nine year old.
Eat while you are here. Our guide to the best restaurants in Bonham covers where to go, and the rest of what we have published on the town sits on the Bonham city page. If you are building a bigger Northeast Texas trip, the best things to do in Denison is half an hour west and pairs with this one, and you can browse everything we have ranked in this category on the things to do hub.
