Every list that outranks this one for "best web designers in Dallas" was written by somebody with a stake in the order. We went to each firm's own website instead and asked one question: can we confirm this agency is actually in Dallas?
How did we pick these?
A verifiable Dallas street address, a local number, and work you can check from outside.
That sounds low as a bar until you apply it. GoodFirms ranks AppMakers USA first among 151 Dallas web development companies, and AppMakers USA is headquartered on South Los Angeles Street in Los Angeles. Clutch puts Connective Web Design on its Dallas list, and Connective's contact page says Houston and answers a 713 number. Designity's Dallas roundup recommends Atomic Design, which publishes three offices, in Franklin Tennessee, Rochester New York and Atlanta, and no Texas address anywhere. Agency Partner Interactive, on Clutch's Dallas list, gives a Plano address.
The self-published lists are worse. Nativz ranks 23 Dallas agencies and puts itself first. Tkist publishes a top ten and declares itself number one. Clutch says outright that it may earn a fee for some placements. That order is a commercial arrangement, not a finding.
What we cut, and why. Beyond the out-of-town firms above, three names that rank well for this search came off for specific reasons. JSL Marketing & Web Design publishes three main offices, in Dallas, Grapevine and Grand Rapids Michigan, plus seven more phone numbers for cities including San Diego and Fort Wayne, and four different Dallas street addresses appear across the directories that list it. Its Dallas line is an 817 number, which is Fort Worth. Hooked On Code has a strong Clutch record and a website that returned a server error on every attempt we made. Bless Web Designs publishes a 214 number and no street address at all, and its own Yelp link points at a Mesquite listing.
Our disclosure, up front. Hello Web Designs publishes The Very Best of Texas, and because it works statewide our scaffolding tool pre-filled it into this article labelled as the publisher. We deleted it. Our studio is in Paris, about two hours northeast, so by the test we just applied to Atomic Design we would be exactly the kind of out-of-town entry this article exists to strip out. It stays on our Paris list, where it is labelled, and our ranking policy explains how we handle it.
Which Dallas firm fits which problem?
| Firm | Trading since | Best at | Watch for |
| Imaginuity | 1997, per directories | Multi-location and franchise brands | Your site may live on its own platform |
| ioVista | 2004, own site | Ecommerce, migrations, ERP integration | Build partly staffed in Michigan and India |
| Red Spot Design | 2001, three sources agree | Small business builds on a budget | Self-reported volume claims |
| Groove Jones | 2015, own site | WebAR, WebGL, interactive | Wrong shop for a brochure site |
| Spire Agency | Not published | B2B brand systems | Big logos belong to a partner's past roles |
| RUNNER Agency | 2008, own site | Medical practices only | Nothing else, by design |
| The Old State | About 2014, self-stated | Small studio, strategy through build | No phone number published |
Read the third column before the first. Four of these seven are strongest at something that is not building an ordinary website, and hiring the wrong one is the most expensive mistake on this page.
What should you know before you sign?
Settle ownership before any money moves. Domain registered in your name with your email as the administrative contact, administrator access to the hosting and the content management system, your own analytics property, your own Google Business Profile. Two firms here bundle hosting with the build, and one runs its own website platform, all of which is fine as long as you know the exit terms on the day you sign rather than the day you want to leave.
Then separate the build from the upkeep. Plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring and security patching continue for as long as the site exists, and when they are folded into one build price you cannot see what year two costs. Ask for that line separately even if you intend to buy it.
Last, name what is actually broken. If nobody can find you, that is search. If they find you and leave, that is the site. If they stay and still cannot tell what you sell, that is messaging. Three purchases, and only one is a web designer.
What should you do next?
Shortlist two firms from different rows of that table and ask both the same five questions. Who owns the domain. What does the finished site load in. Who writes the copy and supplies the photographs. What does maintenance cost in year two. Can we see something you shipped in the last year for a business our size. Then ask to meet at the office.
