The Best HVAC Companies in Denton, Texas

Ten HVAC companies with real Denton addresses, ranked on state licences, independent records, and how long they have actually worked in this town.

The Short Answer

Work Environmental Systems on Fort Worth Drive is the strongest all-round answer in Denton, running since 1969 and taking Best of Denton honors six years straight. BCI on East Oak Street is the pick if you want HVAC and plumbing from one licence holder, and Cote's Mechanical on Shelby Lane answers the phone at any hour.

Work Environmental Systems

Fort Worth Drive · $$

Known for The longest continuous track record of any HVAC company in Denton

Peter Work started this company in Denton in 1969, which makes it the oldest heating and air business still operating in the city. It handles residential changeouts, commercial rooftop units, duct installation, and maintenance agreements out of one shop on Fort Worth Drive rather than farming the harder work out.

The credentials are checkable in three separate places. Trane lists it as a dealer in the manufacturer's own directory, the Better Business Bureau has had it accredited since February 2005, and it took the Denton Record-Chronicle readers poll for air conditioning and heating six years running, 2014 through 2019. It repairs all brands and installs Trane and Daikin.

Go-to order or tip: Book the maintenance agreement in March or April. What you are actually buying is priority scheduling in the last week of July, and by then the list is full.

BCI Plumbing, Heating and Air

East Oak Street, downtown · $$

Known for HVAC and plumbing licences held by the same multi-generational family company

BCI was formed in Denton in 1984 as BCI Mechanical by Dan Coward, Bill Burley, and Terry Tekell, and it spent its first decades doing commercial construction for the apartment developers who built the modern city. About ten years ago it turned toward residential work. Denton County Magazine covered that shift in a feature on the company's fortieth year, and the founders' children now run parts of the business.

It publishes both of its state credentials, TACLA005013C on the air conditioning side and M23894 on the plumbing side, which matters when a condensate drain, a gas line, or a water heater turns out to be tangled up in the HVAC problem. Its customer surveys are collected by GuildQuality, a third party, rather than by the company itself.

Go-to order or tip: If your house is anywhere near the square, ask specifically about the older gas furnaces in Denton's pre-war stock. This is the crew that has been inside most of them.

Cote's Mechanical

Shelby Lane, north Denton · $$

Known for Air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical from one dispatcher

Cote's is the widest service list of any company on this page. Heating and air, plumbing, and electrical all run out of the Shelby Lane shop, so a job that turns out to need a new circuit for the air handler does not become a second contractor and a second wait.

The Better Business Bureau accredited it in August 2025 and rates it A+, and it is a Denton Chamber of Commerce member. We have left the founding year off because sources give two different dates for when the business started, 1994 in one record and 2001 in another.

Go-to order or tip: Use these people for the 2 a.m. call. Round-the-clock staffing is the thing they advertise hardest, and it is the thing most Denton shops cannot match.

Cogburn's Heating & Air Conditioning

South Woodrow Lane · $$

Known for No overtime or after-hours surcharge on repairs

Cogburn's has served Denton since 1999 as a family-owned shop, trading formally as Cogburn's Service General. The Better Business Bureau accredited it in 2003 and rates it A+, it is listed in the Denton Chamber directory, and it appears in GE Appliances' own contractor finder, which is a manufacturer's list rather than a paid directory.

The policy worth knowing is that it does not charge overtime rates on repairs. A Saturday evening compressor call in Denton is frequently the difference between a normal invoice and a punishing one, and this is one of the few local companies that says outright it will not do that.

Go-to order or tip: Published hours differ between listings, so call rather than assume. The pattern across every source is early morning to late evening, seven days.

Hours
Long daily hours including weekends, with no overtime rate charged

Known for Forty-plus years in Denton with an in-house plumbing division

Strittmatter has been a Denton fixture since 1980. Joe Strittmatter took over the family business from his parents in 2005, and Abe De La Rosa joined in 2012 to launch the plumbing side, which is still one of the few genuine HVAC-and-plumbing operations in the county rather than a bolt-on.

Two things to know. The Denton Record-Chronicle reported that the company was acquired by Granite Comfort, a New York based investment firm in the HVAC and plumbing sector, so it is no longer independently owned. And its contact details are inconsistent across directories, with two Denton addresses and two phone numbers in circulation, so we have published neither.

Go-to order or tip: Go through the company's own website for the current number. The stale listings on third-party directories are the most common way people reach a line that no longer rings.

Force Home Services

Shady Oaks Drive · $$

Known for A Carrier dealer with heating, air, and plumbing under one roof

Force is the current name of a company Carrier's dealer directory dates to 1988, when it started as Air Force Mechanical and later traded as Air Force Heating & Air Conditioning. That directory listing is a manufacturer credential, not a purchased one, and it is the cleanest evidence of how long this crew has actually been working in Denton.

The current business covers heating, air conditioning, plumbing, water heaters, drain cleaning, and ductless mini-splits. It is a Denton Chamber of Commerce member and carries a Better Business Bureau profile. Older listings still show an address on North Elm Street, so confirm which office you are being dispatched from if you go in person.

Go-to order or tip: Ask for the Carrier line if you are replacing a whole system. Dealer standing usually means faster parts and better warranty handling on that brand than on the others they carry.

Pronto Air

Redstone Road, east Denton · $$

Known for One of the few Denton shops that will work on manufactured and mobile homes

Pronto Air is owned and operated by Raul Salazar Jr., and the Better Business Bureau opened its file on the company in May 2013. Yelp, YellowPages, and the BBB all give the same Redstone Road address and the same phone number, which is more consistency than half the companies in this search return.

The distinguishing thing is mobile and manufactured home work. Those systems use different equipment sizing, different duct arrangements, and different clearances, and a lot of Denton contractors quietly decline them. Pronto Air publishes a dedicated page for that work. Air filtration and air quality installs are the other specialty.

Go-to order or tip: If your home is manufactured or modular, say so when you book rather than at the door. It changes what equipment gets loaded on the truck.

Morrison's Heating and Air

South Locust Street · $$

Known for A genuinely small owner-answered shop close to the square

Johnny and Patricia Morrison are named as owner and co-owner on the Better Business Bureau file, which was opened in December 2012 and gives a business start date of May 2009. Before the HVAC business the two of them ran Denton's first brewing and winemaking supply shop, which is a detail that says something about how long they have been trading with this town.

It is a small operation and reads like one. Repair, replacement, preventative maintenance, and duct cleaning, from an address a few blocks south of the square. If you want the owner on the phone rather than a call center, this is the shortest route to it.

Go-to order or tip: Ask about duct cleaning at the same visit as a service call. Bundling it saves a second trip charge and it is one of their advertised specialties.

Best Air

Denton, mailing address only · $$

Known for Technicians who are not paid on what they sell you

Best Air has worked in Denton since 1987 doing residential service, repair, and new systems on all makes and models, including heat pumps, gas furnaces, electric heat, and duct replacement. It states plainly that its technicians are not compensated by how much equipment they sell, which is the single most common complaint homeowners have about HVAC quotes.

We have published no street address because the company lists only a post office box, and sources give slightly different Sunday hours, so treat weekend service as an emergency call with a surcharge rather than standard availability.

Go-to order or tip: This is the one to call for a second opinion when a bigger company has told you the system needs replacing. No-commission techs are the whole point of that phone call.

Hours
Weekday and Saturday daytime hours, with Sunday handled as emergency service

CBS Mechanical

West University Drive

Known for Commercial and institutional mechanical work, not household service calls

This one is on the list for a different reader. CBS Mechanical was incorporated in Denton in 1975 and works as a full mechanical and commercial roofing contractor, with plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC for school districts, universities, and retail developers. It is one of the larger private employers in the city.

Do not call it about the air conditioner in your house. Call it if you run a campus building, a church, a restaurant, or a strip center and you need someone who works at that scale and is already based in Denton rather than dispatched from Dallas.

Go-to order or tip: For commercial jobs, ask about the roofing division at the same time. Rooftop unit work and roof penetrations are the same conversation, and few contractors here hold both trades.

How did we pick these?

We started from lists nobody pays to be on. The Denton Chamber of Commerce heating and air category, the Better Business Bureau's Denton file, manufacturer dealer directories from Trane and Carrier, and GE Appliances' contractor finder. Then we cut everything without a Denton street address.

That last filter did most of the work. Search "HVAC Denton" and you get PRK Services in Sanger, North Texas Heating & Air in Argyle, Air Flow Comfort Systems in Haslet, and a long tail of national brands running Denton landing pages from Southlake, Plano, and Houston. Those are real companies. They are just not Denton companies, and a list that quietly mixes them in is not telling you anything you could not get from a maps search.

We also cut a company we have a business relationship with. R2 Mechanical HVAC, whose website Hello Web Designs built, is a Denton Chamber member with a Texas licence and BBB accreditation, and it is a good shop. Its address is in Krum, and ten companies with Denton addresses and deeper local records came ahead of it here, so it is not on this page. It is ranked on the merits in our guide to HVAC companies near Krum instead.

Three more were dropped for unresolvable records. ShackHVAC returns three different phone numbers and is listed with both a Denton residential address and a Decatur chamber membership. Two businesses trading as variations on "Denton Heating and Air" answer to an out-of-state area code. Where sources conflicted on a single fact rather than the whole business, we left that fact out, which is why Cote's has no founding year and Strittmatter has no address or phone above.

Which Denton companies do more than heating and air?

Most homeowners find out they needed a second trade halfway through the job. Here is who holds what.

Company Denton address Beyond HVAC Longest-standing credential
Work Environmental Systems Fort Worth Dr Commercial rooftop work Trading since 1969
BCI E Oak St Plumbing, licence M23894 Formed 1984
Cote's Mechanical Shelby Ln Plumbing and electrical BBB A+ accredited 2025

Pronto Air Redstone Rd Manufactured homes, filtration BBB file opened 2013
CBS Mechanical W University Dr Commercial roofing, refrigeration Incorporated 1975

What should you know before you call?

Denton's housing stock splits the market in half. The pre-war houses around the square and the Oak-Hickory district tend toward older gas furnaces and pier-and-beam access, and the newer subdivisions on the edges of town tend toward heat pumps on slabs. Ask a contractor which of the two they do more of. The answer tells you more than any review count.

Two practical points. First, check the Denton Municipal Electric GreenSense registered installer list before you commit, because the rebate is conditional on the installer being registered when the work happens, not on the equipment alone. Second, look up the TDLR licence number yourself. It takes a minute and it is the only claim on a contractor's website that you can independently confirm.

On timing, the last two weeks of July are when everything in Denton County breaks at once and every schedule in this article fills. Maintenance booked in spring is cheap insurance against being twelfth in line during a run of hundred-degree days.

What should you do next?

If your system is limping and you want one call to settle it, phone Work Environmental Systems and ask for a diagnostic rather than a replacement quote. If the failure is already at 10 p.m. on a Saturday, Cote's and Cogburn's are the two names that will pick up without turning the clock into a surcharge. If a big company has just told you the whole system has to go, get Best Air out for a second opinion first, because their techs are not paid on what they sell.

Frequently Asked Questions

Work Environmental Systems on Fort Worth Drive has the deepest verifiable record in the city. It has operated in Denton since 1969, it is listed in Trane's own dealer directory, it has been BBB accredited since February 2005, and it won the Denton Record-Chronicle readers poll for heating and air six years in a row from 2014 to 2019.

Denton Municipal Electric runs the GreenSense incentive program, which covers efficiency upgrades including HVAC and HVAC tune-ups. The important condition is that the company doing the installation has to be registered with the program at the time of the work. The city publishes a registered installer list, so confirm your contractor is on it before you sign anything.

Air conditioning and refrigeration contractors in Texas are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and every licence number can be looked up free on the TDLR website. A Class A licence carries no tonnage limit, a Class B is capped at residential-scale equipment. Ask for the number rather than accepting the word licensed.

BCI publishes both an HVAC and a plumbing licence, Cote's Mechanical adds electrical on top of both, Strittmatter has run an in-house plumbing division since 2012, and Force Home Services covers water heaters and drain cleaning alongside heating and air. For anything touching a gas line or a condensate drain, one contractor holding both trades saves a second callout.

Cogburn's states that it does not charge overtime rates on repairs, which is unusual in this market. Cote's Mechanical lists staffing around the clock every day. Best Air treats Sunday as emergency service with an added charge. Ask what the after-hours rate is before the truck is dispatched, not after.

No. Every company here has a Denton street address, apart from Best Air, which publishes a Denton post office box. We deliberately cut the Sanger, Argyle, Krum, and Haslet companies that rank in Denton searches, along with the national brands running Denton service-area landing pages.
