The Best Mexican Restaurants in Longview, Texas

Nine Longview Mexican restaurants ranked and verified, from the Texas Monthly taco counter downtown to a 2008 breakfast taco shop and the 1981 Tex-Mex landmark.

The Short Answer

Ki' Mexico ETX, the taco kitchen inside Greenside Beverage Co. downtown, is the best Mexican restaurant in Longview and the taco kitchen Texas Monthly gave its own feature. Mi Casita on North Spur 63 owns breakfast tacos, Los Papagallo's in South Longview is the family taqueria for tortas, and Papacita's is the Tex-Mex institution, open since 1981.

Ki' Mexico ETX

Downtown, inside Greenside Beverage Co. · $$

Known for Chef-driven tacos the rest of East Texas does not have

Brothers Eleazar and Rodrigo Mondragon brought Ki' Mexico over from Shreveport and started regular service inside Greenside Beverage Co., a downtown beer and natural wine shop, in February 2025. Rodrigo calls the cooking Mexican soul food, and that is accurate. There is no combination plate here.

Texas Monthly ran its feature under the headline East Texas Has Never Seen a Taco Joint Quite Like This. It singles out the New Yol' taco filled with New York strip, shrimp marinated in chipotle, and lamb chops glazed in a pomegranate reduction. That is the strongest outside endorsement any kitchen on this list has.

Go-to order or tip: Food and drinks are separate operations under one roof. Order tacos from Ki' Mexico and your beer or wine from Greenside. Sunday brunch launched with lamb barbacoa tacos and chilaquiles.

Hours
Tuesday through Saturday, brunch on Sunday, closed Monday

Mi Casita

North Spur 63, north of downtown · $

Known for Breakfast tacos and the Chuck Norris Burrito

Eric Dean opened Mi Casita in 2008 as a taco shop with three tables. He died in 2023, and his sister Liz Couch and her husband Randy took it on to keep it in the family. Several of the staff who opened the doors with him still work there.

The kitchen makes its own chorizo and barbacoa, cooks beans daily and makes salsa fresh every day, which is why the breakfast tacos are the thing Longview argues about. The Chuck Norris Burrito is big enough that reviewers recommend splitting it, and the French toast comes with house-made syrup.

Go-to order or tip: It opens at half past six on weekdays and the dining room is small, so go early. Do not plan a late lunch, because the doors close at 2.

Hours
Breakfast and lunch only, seven days, closing at 2 p.m.

Los Papagallo's

South Longview, on South Green Street · $

Known for Tortas and barbacoa tacos in the old KN Root Beer building

Edgar Nolasco and his family started this place with two tables in the South Green Street building that housed KN Root Beer for generations. They enclosed it, built out the dining room and added a covered porch, and the Longview News-Journal profiled it in 2016 as an authentic Mexican kitchen that also does fajitas and enchiladas for the Tex-Mex crowd.

Tortas are the best sellers. The Torta Ranchera stacks steak, beans, cheese, grilled onion, pico de gallo and avocado, and KLTV's review praised the barbacoa tacos, the elote and the house red salsa. Everything is cooked to order, so expect a ten to fifteen minute wait.

Go-to order or tip: Order the Torta Ranchera and an elote. It does not serve alcohol, so bring a thirst for a Mexican Coke instead.

Hours
Opens mid-morning, closing times vary by listing, so call ahead

Papacita's

West Loop 281 · $$

Known for Mesquite-grilled fajitas and a dining room that seats 550

Papacita's opened in 1981 and moved into its Loop 281 building in 1992. It can seat up to 550 people across the dining room and two banquet rooms, and some of the staff are second and third generation.

This is the Tex-Mex end of the list. The fajitas come off an open mesquite pit, the tortillas are made in house, and the margaritas are a fixture. With that much room, it is the easiest place in Longview to seat a large party.

Go-to order or tip: Use it for the big group or the Sunday dinner nobody else on this list can host. Order the fajitas, which are what the pit is for.

Hours
Seven days, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., an hour later on Friday and Saturday

El Rincon

South Mobberly Avenue, near LeTourneau University · $

Known for Deep-fried burritos and puffy tacos

El Rincon is a small, family-run homestyle Tex-Mex kitchen on South Mobberly, and it is the place reviewers keep calling their regular rather than their special occasion. The deep-fried burrito is the order people mention first, followed by the puffy taco and cheese enchilada plate.

It is cheap and it closes early. Reviews split on service, which is worth knowing, but regulars note that the family running it is there every day.

Go-to order or tip: Get the deep-fried burrito. Come before 7, since listings disagree on whether it closes at half past seven or eight.

Hours
Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m., closing around 8 p.m. Closed Sunday.

Don Benito's Mexican Cafe

West Loop 281 · $

Known for Fajita combos and daily lunch specials

Don Benito's is a two-restaurant operation, Longview and Tyler, under the same general manager, and it runs the standard Tex-Mex board of enchiladas, fajitas, chimichangas and quesadillas. Reviewers single out the chicken, steak and shrimp fajita combos and the Mexican steak.

The value is the schedule. Lunch specials run seven days a week and happy hour runs 3 to 7 on weekdays, which makes it the cheaper, quieter alternative to the much bigger room down the loop at Papacita's.

Go-to order or tip: Come for a weekday happy hour between 3 and 7 and order the fajita combo.

Hours
Seven days from 11 a.m., to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on weekends

El Corral Mexican Restaurant

Pine Tree Road, west Longview · $$

Known for Hand-crafted margaritas and a margarita flight

El Corral is a family-owned Tex-Mex room that opened on Pine Tree Road in early 2023, pitched from day one on hand-crafted margaritas. That is still the reason people go. The margarita flight is the order reviewers mention most, alongside the chicken and shrimp fajitas and street tacos.

It is the newest room on this list and its review record is shorter than the others, which is why it sits here rather than higher. Sources disagree on its weekday hours, so we have not published any.

Go-to order or tip: Order the margarita flight to share, then the fajitas. Call before a Monday or Tuesday visit, because listings conflict on which days it opens.

Little Mexico

Judson Road, north Longview · $$

Known for Puffy taco supreme and a long menu that runs Mexican and Tex-Mex

Little Mexico describes itself as authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex, and the menu backs that up with sections for both, plus seafood, quesadilla dinners and an American food page for the one person at the table who wants a burger. The crispy puffy taco supreme and the molcajete are the plates that set it apart from the Loop 281 rooms.

It is a north Longview neighborhood restaurant, handy for anyone near Judson Road. Note that directories carry a second phone number, 903-758-2194. The number above is the one on the restaurant's own website.

Go-to order or tip: Do not plan a Tuesday visit, and order the puffy taco supreme.

Hours
Most listings show it closed Tuesday and open from mid-morning other days

Ruby's Mexican Restaurant

Downtown, on South High Street · $

Known for The downtown Tyler import in the old Tuscan Pig building

Ruby's is a Tyler-based family chain owned by Ruby Avarca and Danny Reazol, which grew out of Ruby's homemade brisket tacos on Gentry Parkway. It bought the Tuscan Pig building at 401 South High Street in October 2025 and opened on 11 December 2025, closing its White Oak restaurant in the move.

We have ranked it last because it is a regional chain with less than a year in Longview, not because the food disappoints. It is open every day and sits a few blocks from Ki' Mexico, which makes it the downtown fallback.

Go-to order or tip: Use it as the downtown option on a Monday, when Ki' Mexico is closed.

Hours
Open seven days, closing around 8 p.m.

How did we pick these?

We started with every Longview business listed under Mexican food, Tex-Mex or tacos, then cut anything we could not stand behind. Each of the nine had to show a current address inside Longview, a live presence of its own or a delivery listing active in 2026, and corroboration from a second source: Texas Monthly, the Longview News-Journal, KLTV, the Longview Chamber of Commerce, or the City of Longview's food service inspection reports, which list several of these kitchens with 2026 inspections.

There are no partners, sponsors or paid placements on this list. None of these businesses has any relationship with us.

We ranked on what the kitchen does that you cannot get elsewhere in town, then on track record. That is why a taco counter inside a wine shop sits above a 550-seat institution, and why the newest rooms sit lower until they have a longer record.

Two cuts are worth explaining. Tamalocos on West Loop 281 made hand-rolled tamales from a family recipe, but the News-Journal reported in August 2026 that the owner closed the dine-in restaurant to focus on catering, even though several directories still show it open. On the Border near the Longview Mall closed too. We also left off Tele's Mexican Restaurant on Judson Road, which now lists mainly as a caterer and which we could not confirm as a working dine-in room.

What should you know before you go?

The biggest trap is timing. Mi Casita closes at 2 p.m. every day, El Rincon closes around 8 and all of Sunday, and Ki' Mexico is dark on Monday. The Loop 281 rooms keep the long hours.

Place Style Price Best for
Ki' Mexico ETX Mexican, chef-driven $$ The tacos Texas Monthly wrote up
Mi Casita Breakfast and tacos $ Breakfast tacos before 2 p.m.
Los Papagallo's Mexican, family $ Tortas and elote
Papacita's Tex-Mex $$ Big groups and Sundays
El Rincon Tex-Mex, homestyle $ Deep-fried burritos
Don Benito's Tex-Mex $ Weekday happy hour
El Corral Tex-Mex $$ Margarita flights

Ruby's Mexican, chain $ Downtown on a Monday

Parking is easy everywhere except downtown, where Ki' Mexico and Ruby's share street parking with the rest of the historic district. Los Papagallo's does not serve alcohol, and Ki' Mexico's drinks come from the Greenside bar rather than the kitchen.

Where does Mexican food fit in the wider Longview food scene?

Longview's Mexican kitchens are spread across the whole city, from downtown to South Green Street to Judson Road. Our guide to the best restaurants in Longview ranks Ki' Mexico and Papacita's against every other cuisine in town, and the best barbecue in Longview covers the other thing East Texas does well. If you are planning a whole day, the best things to do in Longview pairs well with a downtown lunch. Everything we publish on the city lives on the Longview city guide, and the Mexican food category hub tracks the same ranking work in other Texas towns, including the best Mexican food in Paris, Texas.

What should you do next?

If you have one Mexican meal in Longview, go downtown to 102 North Green Street on any day but Monday, order two or three tacos at Ki' Mexico, and get a drink from the Greenside side of the room.

If it is morning, skip that and drive to Mi Casita on North Spur 63 for breakfast tacos before the room fills. And if you are feeding a crowd on a Sunday night, book Papacita's and order the fajitas off the mesquite pit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Papacita's and Don Benito's both run full Sunday hours, Ruby's is open seven days, Ki' Mexico ETX serves Sunday brunch, and Mi Casita serves breakfast and lunch until 2. El Rincon is closed Sunday. For a Sunday dinner, Papacita's is the safe call.

Mi Casita on North Spur 63. It has been making breakfast tacos since 2008, makes its own chorizo, and opens at half past six on weekdays. It closes at 2 every afternoon, so it is a morning and lunch plan only.

Ki' Mexico ETX and Los Papagallo's cook closest to Mexico, with corn tortillas, barbacoa and tortas rather than yellow cheese and combination plates. Papacita's, Don Benito's, El Rincon, El Corral and Little Mexico lean Tex-Mex, with fajitas, enchiladas and queso.

The national and regional chains, Chuy's among them, do what they do everywhere else, and they are not what this guide is for. On the Border near the Longview Mall has closed. Ruby's is the one chain we ranked, because it is a family-owned East Texas operation.

Papacita's, which seats up to 550 people across its dining room and two banquet rooms. Nowhere else in Longview comes close on capacity, and it does catering if the group will not fit in the building.
