How did we pick these?
We started from the Longview Chamber of Commerce member directory and the Longview News-Journal's restaurant coverage, then kept only businesses we could confirm from two directions: the restaurant's own site or page, plus an independent source such as the News-Journal, KLTV, the Texas Monthly restaurant directory or the Texas Historical Commission's Texas Time Travel listings.
Three well-known Longview names got cut because they are not open. Tuscan Pig Italian Kitchen, which for years was the answer to "where do you get real Italian in Longview," served its last night on 25 October 2025 after the building at 401 S High Street sold. Dudley's Cajun Cafe on East Marshall closed in June 2023. Johnny Cace's Seafood and Steak House, the 1949 restaurant that was the first fine dining room in the region, closed in 2015. All three still show up on aggregator lists for Longview, which is exactly the failure mode this site exists to avoid.
Two of those cuts have honest successors, and we treated them differently. Cace's Kitchen is on this list, because the same family cooks the same recipes in the original 1949 building. Ruby's, which took the Tuscan Pig space in December 2025, is not, because it is a Tyler-based chain that has been open in Longview for a matter of months. Ask us again in a year.
There are no partners, clients or sponsored listings on this page. No business in our client file operates a restaurant in Gregg County, so nothing was pre-filled into this article and nothing was cut because of a relationship. We also left out national chains with a Longview address and a head office elsewhere.
What should you know before you go?
The thing that will actually ruin a trip here is closing days. Only one restaurant on this list opens seven days a week, and three of the best ones are effectively lunch operations.
| Restaurant | Area | Price | Closed |
| Café Barron's | W Loop 281 | $$$ | Monday, Sunday varies |
| Ki' Mexico ETX | Downtown | $$ | Monday |
| Papacita's | W Loop 281 | $$ | Open daily |
| Bodacious on Mobberly | S Mobberly Ave | $ | Sunday and Monday |
| Judd's Downtown | Downtown | $$$ | Sunday |
| Cace's Kitchen | Downtown | $$ | Saturday, Sunday, Monday |
| Fisherman's Market | Johnston St | $$ | Sunday |
| The Butcher Shop | Lehigh St | $ | Check the site |
| Pizza King | E Marshall Ave | $ | Monday |
Longview splits into two dining areas and they do not overlap. West Loop 281 holds Café Barron's and Papacita's, and it is where you go for a sit-down dinner with parking. Downtown, around the brick streets, holds Judd's on East Tyler and then Ki' Mexico and Cace's Kitchen a block apart on North Green. Downtown is walkable, but two of its three kitchens keep short hours.
Bodacious, Fisherman's Market and The Butcher Shop are each on their own, in different directions, and each needs a dedicated drive.
Where should you go if you only get one meal?
If it is dinner and it matters, Café Barron's. If it is lunch and you want the thing Longview does that no other East Texas town does, the original Bodacious on Mobberly Avenue, which has been at that address since 1968 and is still run by the founder's widow and grandchildren.
If you want to see where Longview is heading rather than where it has been, walk into Greenside Beverage Co. downtown and order from Ki' Mexico at the counter.
What should you do next?
Call before you drive. Six of these nine close at least one full day a week and two of them close three, and hours on the aggregator sites for Longview were wrong often enough during this research that we would not trust them.
More of our East Texas coverage is on the Longview city guide and the best restaurants in Texas hub. Tyler is 25 minutes west on I-20, so the best restaurants in Tyler is the natural next stop, and the best barbecue in Texas hub covers the joints Bodacious competes with.
