The Best Restaurants in Weatherford, Texas

Wes and Robin Maynard got into the restaurant business in Breckenridge in 1988, came back home to Weatherford four years later, and opened Mesquite Pit in April 1993. Thirty three years on it is still the default answer when somebody in Parker County asks where to eat, and as of September 2026 it sits at the top of Tripadvisor's Weatherford ranking.

The trick here is that one kitchen does two things properly. Steaks go over mesquite coals, and the same pit turns out sliced brisket, dry rubbed pork ribs and smoked sausage. The starters are the giveaway that this is a Texas room and not a steakhouse template, with stuffed jalapenos, fried green tomatoes and chicken fried bacon on the front of the menu.

Salt is the closest Weatherford gets to a special occasion restaurant since Fire Oak Grill closed, and it does the two things its name promises rather than sprawling. Gulf seafood and steaks, a proper bar, and a dining room a block off the courthouse square that you walk to from downtown parking.

It carries a listing in Texas Monthly's restaurant directory, which is not an award but does mean somebody outside Parker County has been paying attention. The schedule is the thing to plan around. Dinner runs Tuesday through Saturday and lunch only lands Thursday through Saturday, so a Monday visit is not happening.

This is the newest of the serious kitchens in Weatherford and the one with a point of view. Everything runs through live fire, the sourcing leans local, and the cocktail list is built around western spirits rather than whatever the distributor is pushing.

It sits out on the Granbury Highway rather than downtown, which means a short drive and easy parking instead of circling the square. Dinner only, five nights a week, and it takes reservations, which tells you how the room fills on a Friday.

Zeno's is the downtown Italian that outgrew its own building. It moved from a small space on Houston Avenue into the larger room at 113 College Ave, which is the rare Weatherford restaurant story where the ending is more tables rather than a closing notice.

The cooking is Northern Italian, made in house, with a wine list that is chosen rather than inherited. It runs lunch and dinner straight through Monday to Saturday, which makes it the most reliable sit down meal on the square when you have not planned ahead.

The original Teddy Wongs opened on Rosedale Street in Fort Worth's Near Southside in late 2023 and built its name on dumplings and an unusually good wine list. This is its second location, and it landed in the space on Houston Avenue that Zeno's vacated when it moved to a bigger room around the corner.

Dumplings are the whole point. Chicken and celery, mushroom and pork, shrimp and veggie, steamed or pan fried. It is a Fort Worth transplant rather than a Weatherford original, which we would normally hold against a listing, but the kitchen is genuinely here on the square and nothing else in town is cooking this food.

Leslie and Ryder White opened Whistle Hill in 2004, ran it twelve years, got pushed out to a spot outside town, and then brought it back into downtown Weatherford. The current name marks that return and the addition of their eldest son Paxton as a partner, along with a breakfast menu the original did not have.

The walls are hung with old photographs of Weatherford and the Chisholm Trail, and the room does the daytime job the square needs, coffee, eggs and a plate lunch. It closes in the early afternoon, so this is not a dinner option.

Weatherford's craft beer room, with forty five taps, a cocktail list and a kitchen that turns out flatbreads and burgers. It is a bar that feeds you properly rather than a restaurant with beer, and that is the right way to arrive.

Read the kitchen schedule before you plan dinner around it. The bar runs late every day, but the old fashioned burgers are a Thursday through Sunday evening thing, and lunch and chef specials rotate. Parking on that block is tight, which is the most common complaint in reviews.

The best Mexican food downtown, and the one that is still serving when the kitchens on the square have closed. Tacos are the order, margaritas are the reason the patio stays full, and the big outdoor seating area is a genuine advantage in a town where most restaurants are inside a historic building with no room to expand.

It sits directly across the circle from the Parker County Courthouse, which makes it the easiest place in this guide to find and the hardest to park near on a Saturday.

Family owned and operated, in Texas since 1999, and the answer to the question of where to eat when nobody can agree. Doughs and sauces are made from scratch, the style is New York, and the menu runs past pizza into pasta, subs and salads.

It is on South Main rather than downtown, in a strip that you would drive past without noticing. That is usually where the good pizza in a Texas town of this size turns out to be.
