The Short Answer

Texas Cafe Diner on Wesley Street is the best breakfast in Greenville, a dedicated breakfast house with the deepest review record in town. Luke's on Lee Street is the scratch Southern pick downtown, Fiddle & Fork opens at seven, and Glenda's Cafe starts serving at half past six.

Texas Cafe Diner

Wesley Street · $

Known for Biscuits with sausage gravy, crisp hash browns and a chicken fried steak breakfast

The one room in Greenville built around breakfast rather than serving it on the way to lunch. Its Yelp page carries about 86 reviews at 4.3 stars in the September 2026 snapshot, and the aggregate records run several hundred more, which is the deepest public record any breakfast kitchen in town has.

What reviewers name, repeatedly, is the biscuits and the gravy and the hash browns. The menu goes wider than most, with a chicken fried steak breakfast, a sausage and mushroom skillet, fresh blueberry pancakes and a breakfast burrito, so a table of four can order four different things.

Go-to order or tip: Published closing times split between three in the afternoon and nine at night depending on the platform. Breakfast is safe, a late plate needs a phone call.

Hours
Opens 7 a.m. and closes mid-afternoon most days, running later on Friday. Platforms disagree on the close, so call

Luke's

Downtown, Lee Street · $$

Known for Scratch Southern breakfast, chicken and waffles, house biscuits

A family-run Southern kitchen that describes its own cooking as heirloom ingredients and local proteins, a description the Greenville Chamber carries in its directory too. Chicken and waffles and the biscuits are what people name first, and it is the only kitchen on this list where the sourcing is part of the pitch.

The six-hour window is the whole design. It opens at eight and shuts at two, seven days a week, so it is a breakfast and lunch restaurant and nothing else. That is also what makes it the only sit-down breakfast in Greenville we can confirm serves on a Sunday.

Go-to order or tip: No phone number is published anywhere we could verify, so use the website or walk in. Weekend late mornings are the crowd.

Hours
Every day, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fiddle & Fork

Inside Uptown Forum, downtown · $

Known for Handmade biscuits and gravy and hand-battered chicken fried steak

The earliest downtown kitchen, open at seven, tucked inside Uptown Forum, the restored 1916 Perkins Brothers Department Store building. Biscuits, pastries, the chicken fried steak batter and the sides are all made in house rather than opened from a bag, which is not the norm at this price.

The sides are where it separates itself from a diner. Fresh Texas okra, pinto beans and mashed potatoes are all scratch, and the pastry case is worth arriving early for because it does not get restocked.

Go-to order or tip: It shares 2610 Lee Street with Brothers Cafe, so map apps send you to one door for two kitchens. Fiddle & Fork is the morning one.

Hours
Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday

Glenda's Cafe & Catering

Moulton Street, west side · $

Known for Home-style cooking and the earliest sit-down breakfast in town

The earliest table in Greenville. The city's own business directory lists it opening at half past six on weekdays, a full hour and a half before Luke's and half an hour before Fiddle & Fork, which makes it the only option in town for a sit-down breakfast before a seven o'clock start.

It is a plain home-style cafe with a catering business attached, and that is the appeal. Sources split on whether the breakfast menu stops at ten or eleven and whether Saturday runs at all, so this is one to phone. What they agree on is the early open and the weekday close in the early afternoon.

Go-to order or tip: Breakfast service ends well before the kitchen does. If you want eggs rather than lunch, be there before ten.

Hours
Weekday mornings from about 6.30 a.m. into the early afternoon, Saturday breakfast only until late morning. Closed Sunday

Tortilleria La Norteñita

Wesley Street · $

Known for Breakfast burritos and morning tacos on tortillas pressed on site

The only breakfast in Greenville that is not eggs and biscuits, and the only one served on tortillas made in the same building. It is a tortilleria with a kitchen attached, so the tortilla under the burrito was pressed that morning rather than shipped in by the case.

It opens at about half past seven, earlier than every downtown kitchen except Fiddle & Fork, and it keeps going all day, so it is also the fallback when you want breakfast food at two in the afternoon and the cafes have shut.

Go-to order or tip: Buy a stack of tortillas at the counter on the way out. That is the thing no other breakfast in town can sell you.

Hours
Opens about 7.30 a.m. most days and runs into the evening, later on Friday

Sweetie's Donuts

Wesley Street · $

Known for Donuts and pastries from five in the morning, seven days a week

Greenville has five donut shops and this is the one whose hours the city's own directory publishes outright, five in the morning to noon, every day. That makes it the earliest food of any kind in Hunt County and the answer to a six a.m. start when no cafe is lit.

Its independent ratings are the weakest of the donut counters in town, sitting around three stars across a small number of reviews, which is exactly why it is ranked below the five kitchens above it rather than left off. Buy donuts here, not breakfast.

Go-to order or tip: It is a noon close, not an afternoon one. By one o'clock every donut counter in Greenville is dark.

Hours
Daily, 5 a.m. to noon

Greenville Donuts

North Wesley Street strip centre · $

Known for Apple fritters, bear claws, twists and kolaches

The best-rated donut counter in Greenville, carrying a 5.0 average on its Yelp listing, though across only twelve reviews, so read it as a strong small sample rather than a verdict. The city's business directory confirms the strip-centre address on north Wesley Street.

The case is wider than a standard donut shop, with apple fritters, bear claws, twists and kolaches, which makes it the nearest thing Greenville has to a kolache stop on the way out of town.

Go-to order or tip: One syndicated listing puts this shop on Main Street downtown. It is not there. It is at 9701 Wesley Street, in the strip centre.

Address
9701 Wesley St
Hours
Opens 5 a.m. and closes around midday

How did we pick these?

No partners, clients or sponsored entries appear on this list. Nothing in clients.json runs a breakfast kitchen in Hunt County, so the scaffold pre-filled nothing and nothing was cut for a relationship. Every pick is editorial.

Breakfast is a harder category to research than dinner, because the places that do it well are small and most of them publish nothing. Only two of these seven run their own website. So the spine of this list is the City of Greenville's own business directory, which carries addresses, phone numbers and in several cases the opening hours straight from the city, plus the Greenville Chamber directory and current independent reviews.

Where sources disagreed, and they did constantly, we described the pattern rather than pick a time and assert it. Texas Cafe Diner's posted close ranges from three in the afternoon to nine at night across four platforms. Glenda's breakfast cutoff is given as both ten and eleven, and its Saturday service is listed both as breakfast-only and not at all. Those are in the entries as uncertainty, because a confidently wrong opening time is worse than no opening time.

What we cut. C B's Sandwich Shop on Wesley Street is a genuinely good Greenville institution and one reviewer calls its weekday breakfast the best in the area, but the shop's own listing gives a nine in the morning open, which leaves no breakfast window at all. We could not resolve that, so it stays on our best restaurants in Greenville list as a lunch pick and off this one. Brothers Cafe shares the Uptown Forum address but starts at eleven. Snowflake Donuts, Doughnut Palace and Winstar Donuts are all real businesses in the city directory, and two donut counters was enough for a breakfast list.

What should you know before you go?

Greenville eats breakfast early and stops. Every independent kitchen on this list has shut by three in the afternoon, the donut counters are dark by one, and two of the seven do not open at all on Sunday.

Where Opens Closes Best for
Sweetie's Donuts 5 a.m. Noon The earliest food in town
Greenville Donuts 5 a.m. Around midday Fritters and kolaches
Glenda's Cafe 6.30 a.m. Early afternoon Earliest sit-down
Fiddle & Fork 7 a.m. 3 p.m. Scratch biscuits downtown
Texas Cafe Diner 7 a.m. Mid-afternoon A full breakfast menu
Tortilleria La Norteñita 7.30 a.m. Evening Breakfast tacos, late
Luke's 8 a.m. 2 p.m. Sunday, and the best cooking

The geography is simple. Lee Street downtown has Luke's and Fiddle & Fork within two blocks, so you can park once. Everything else is strung along Wesley Street, the highway strip, which means a short drive and easy parking.

Who opens earliest in Greenville?

The donut counters, at five in the morning, and the city's own directory publishes Sweetie's hours as five to noon daily. If you need actual cooked breakfast at a table, the answer is Glenda's Cafe on Moulton Street at about half past six, then Fiddle & Fork and Texas Cafe Diner at seven, then Tortilleria La Norteñita at half past.

That matters more here than it would in a city, because Greenville has no 24-hour independent kitchen. Before half past six, your options are a donut counter or the IHOP on Wesley Street. After three in the afternoon, the only place on this list still serving breakfast food is the tortilleria.

What should you do next?

Pick by the clock, not by the ranking. For a proper weekend breakfast, go to Luke's on Lee Street and order the chicken and waffles, then walk the downtown block afterwards. For a weekday plate with the widest menu, Texas Cafe Diner on Wesley Street. For something different, breakfast tacos at Tortilleria La Norteñita, which also turns up at the top of our best Mexican restaurants in Greenville guide for the same reason.

More of Hunt County sits on our Greenville hub, and the full best breakfast section covers the rest of Texas. An hour northeast, the best breakfast in Paris, Texas guide covers Lamar County, and west toward the Red River the best breakfast in Sherman covers Grayson.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tortilleria La Norteñita is the closest thing, opening about half past seven and serving breakfast burritos and morning tacos into the evening. Texas Cafe Diner's breakfast menu runs the length of its service, but its posted closing time varies by platform, so phone before a late plate.

Two, both on Lee Street. Fiddle & Fork inside the Uptown Forum building opens at seven Monday to Saturday, and Luke's at 2406 Lee Street opens at eight every day. Everything else on this list is out on the Wesley Street strip or on Moulton Street.

Tortilleria La Norteñita at 3811 Wesley Street, which presses its own tortillas on site and opens before eight. It is the only kitchen in Greenville serving morning tacos and breakfast burritos, since the rest of the town's Mexican restaurants do not open until eleven.

Luke's is the one sit-down kitchen we can confirm serves Sunday, eight to two like every other day. Fiddle & Fork and Glenda's are both closed Sunday. The city directory lists the donut counters as open daily, and the chain restaurants on the interstate all serve Sunday.

They are the backstop, not the plan. IHOP, Cracker Barrel, Cotton Patch Cafe and Grandy's all sit on or near the Wesley Street and I-30 corridor and all appear in the city's own restaurant directory. They are useful at nine at night, which no independent breakfast kitchen here is.
